Anyone interested in tourism in Ireland has probably read articles about how much tourism has grown in Northern Ireland in recent years. This is certainly the case for Lough Neagh Tours, but so much of Northern Ireland’s success has been due to American visitors, usually coming to visit their ancestral roots. We hope that locals throughout the island of Ireland will consider visiting Northern Ireland; there really are so many hidden gems to discover.
Northern Ireland is famous for the Giant’s Causeway and Belfast’s Titanic Experience; and, while these experiences are every bit as good as everyone says they are, there is so much more to Northern Ireland that is often ignored. That’s what we want to highlight over the next year as we do our best to offer authentic tourist experiences in rural Northern Ireland, with food tours, boat tours, gin tastings, foraging experiences, and so much more. Sign-up using the form to be the first to know when these experiences are available.
We are developing a rich range of experiences for anyone keen to explore Northern Ireland. Some experiences will be self-drive and others are tour experiences where we drive you to the destinations. Everything has been based on championing local experts and local produce, putting our best foot forward and finding the hidden gems in the local area.
Safety is always our main priority, so many of our experiences may simply be available to family bubbles initially, then expanded for everyone else as and when we’re confident it’s safe to do so.
Working with Bakehouse NI — a local cookery school — guests will learn about Northern Irish baking, with a lesson on how to make traditional soda bread (pictured above).
Visit a family-run farm that has been growing apples for generations. In recent years, Long Meadow has created its own apple juice, cider, and apple cider vinegar.
Take a boat tour in Lough Neagh, the vast lough in the centre of Northern Ireland. Here, you will climb aboard a passenger boat (not a fishing boat) and listen to stories about life as a fishing family on Lough Neagh.
Symphonia Gin has a revolutionary approach to producing gin, preferring scientific methods to traditional methods. You will have the opportunity to visit the distillery, learn about their cutting-edge techniques, and — of course — sample the end product.
The Crosskey’s Inn is Ireland’s oldest thatched pub dating back to 1654. This is a famous traditional Irish music venue with turf fires and a very, very good pint of Guinness. They provide whiskey and chocolate tasting for private groups, and they even have their own brand of whiskey.
There are more experiences we’re excited to talk about, but we don’t want to overwhelm anyone by listing everything here.
If you’re planning to get out and explore Ireland this year, to see the best our island has to offer, we hope you’ll consider one or two of the experiences we’re putting together here at Lough Neagh Tours.
